Should I upgrade from 1 gb RAm to 2 gb RAm?

I have a similar Vaio laptop that I rebuilt, slightly older than yours. If you're doing some or processor heavy music editing, then yes, it would be a good idea. I upgraded my RAM and experienced a good increase in speed almost instantly with application response time. Upgrading RAM is pretty essential if you use FruityLoops or Reasin for music editing, as these are pretty processor and RAM intensive applications. Photoshop is not so much a necessity for a RAM upgrade from my experience. Also if you're into gaming then it is a must.
